SPLM Chairman in Western Equatoria State Kickstarts Construction of Modern SPLM House in Yambio

In a bid to elevate the facilities available to members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party in Western Equatoria State, the SPLM Chairman, Comrade H.E. Elia Richard Box, has launched the construction of a new SPLM House in Yambio, the state capital.

The inauguration of the construction project took place on Monday, August 5, 2024, and marked a pivotal moment for the state’s political landscape. The decision to build a new SPLM House stemmed from the inadequacy and outdated nature of the current office occupied by the SPLM Chairman.

As explained by Hon. Joseph Arkangelo Apai, the Press Secretary of the Deputy Governor, the existing SPLM Chairman’s office situated along the highway will soon be demolished due to the highway expansion passing through Yambio. Additionally, the building, originally constructed by the Community Development Centre (CDC) during the SPLM/SPLA revolutionary struggle, no longer meets the contemporary requirements of the party.

Hon. Apai emphasized the necessity of a new, purpose-built structure that can adequately accommodate the growing number of SPLM party members and cater to the evolving needs of the party’s activities. The initiative to construct the new SPLM House is being spearheaded by the Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State, who also serves as the Chairman of the party in the state. The project is fully funded from his allocated budget, with his active involvement in overseeing its implementation.

The construction of the modern office block, set to begin immediately, will not only address the impending demolition of the current building but also provide enhanced facilities for the SPLM Chairperson’s office and the State Secretariat. The groundbreaking ceremony witnessed the presence of key SPLM figures including the State Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Secretary, and various party cadres.

During the event, the Secretary expressed gratitude to the Chairperson for his visionary step towards securing a new home for the SPLM in Western Equatoria State, signifying a promising chapter for the party’s future endeavors in the region.
