South Sudan Civil Society Alliance Urges Government to Uphold Justice and Human Rights
Juba – The South Sudan Civil Society Alliance (SSCSA) has issued a statement urging the government to prioritize human rights and the rule of law. Dabek Mabior Arok, the Acting Chairperson of SSCSA, emphasized the necessity of respecting fundamental rights amidst ongoing challenges in the country.
“We urge the government to apply the principles of justice, dignity, and respect for human rights,” Arok stated during a press briefing. “It is crucial that we hold those responsible for abuses accountable by bringing their cases to the courts for further action.”
Arok asserted the importance of fostering a culture of respect for the rule of law, particularly in light of the urgent need for reconciliation among communities in South Sudan. “Justice and reconciliation are not merely aspirations; they are essential for achieving lasting peace in our nation,” he added.
In a poignant appeal, Arok called on President Salva Kiir and the government to take swift action in facilitating the reunion of families separated by conflict. Specifically, the SSCSA is advocating for the release of General Christo Thon and Colonel Simon Aboui Atem, who they say should be allowed to reunite with their loved ones. “We strongly appeal to our leaders to prioritize family reunification,” he insisted.
