An MP representing the ruling party, SPLM, in the national parliament is advocating for the relocation of international organizations situated adjacent to the Presidential Palace, J1. Ghada James Kulang emphasized the need for enhanced security and intelligence data protection by moving these organizations further away to prevent potential infiltration.
Mrs. Kulang highlighted the unique proximity of NGOs to the Presidential Palace in comparison to similar setups in other countries, stressing the importance of ensuring a safe distance between key institutions and external entities.
She singled out organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) as examples of entities that should consider relocating for security reasons.
“I believe it is crucial to address this issue seriously,” stated Ms. Kulang, urging the Minister of Housing to prioritize the relocation of these international organizations surrounding the presidential palace.
During her interactions with regional presidential offices, Mrs. Kulang noted that neighboring institutions or private businesses were not located in close proximity, emphasizing the potential risks associated with having NGOs too near sensitive government facilities.
“In countries like Kenya, where I visited the president’s residence, there are no nearby establishments that could compromise security and intelligence operations,” cautioned Mrs. Kulang.
