In a recent statement, Mr. Edmund Yakani, the Executive Director of the community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), has called upon the political leadership of the country to provide much-needed information regarding the upcoming elections scheduled for December 22nd, 2024. The citizens are eager to understand the fate of the elections, especially in light of the Electoral Law amended act 2023 section 16, subsection two which mandates the dissolution of the government of national unity 90 days before the voting date.

Yakani expressed his concerns about the lack of transparency surrounding the potential postponement of the elections as declared by the National Election Commission for December 22nd, 2024. With time ticking away and October fast approaching, there is a growing sense of urgency among citizens who seek clarity from their political leaders.

As Yakani highlighted, the necessary conditions for creating a conducive environment for the elections are yet to be met, raising doubts about the feasibility of holding the elections as scheduled.

He emphasized the importance of hearing the opinions of the political leadership on the crucial date of September 22nd, 2024, for the dissolution of the government and the future of the elections.

Furthermore, Yakani urged the leadership and President of the Republic of Kenya to engage in discussions with the political leadership in South Sudan to address concerns regarding the political transition process. He emphasized the need to counter the influence of those seeking to disrupt the transition and called upon President William Ruto of Kenya to play a constructive role in supporting the stability and integrity of the electoral process.

The citizens anxiously await decisive action and clear communication from their leaders as they navigate the path towards a democratic and peaceful future.
