Cross-Border Tensions Escalate: CEPO Urges Juba and Kampala to Address Land Ownership Issues

The Community Empower for Progress Organisation (CEPO) has raised concerns over the escalating tensions surrounding border crossings by the military, particularly the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), and its impact on citizens in the region. Mr. Edmund Yakani, the Executive Director of CEPO, is calling upon the authorities in Juba and Kampala to address the pressing issue of land disputes and potential threats to the safety of individuals residing along the border.

In a recent statement, Yakani emphasized the need for both governments to refrain from involving civilians in territorial conflicts and land wars. The growing friction at border communities has sparked fears among citizens and has the potential to incite violence over land ownership disputes between South Sudan and Uganda.

Yakani highlighted the deteriorating situation along the borders as a significant threat to stability and security for those living in the vicinity. He stressed the urgency for Juba and Kampala to intervene and mitigate the tensions surrounding land ownership disputes before they escalate further and result in violent confrontations that could endanger lives.

CEPO is urgently appealing to the authorities in Juba and Kampala to prioritize resolving these border disputes through peaceful dialogue and proactive measures to prevent any outbreak of violence or conflict that could have devastating consequences for both countries and their citizens.
