President Kiir Reopens TNLA and Calls for Preparations for Elections
Juba – In a significant move towards promoting democracy and stability in South Sudan, President Salva Kiir Mayardit officially reopened the National Legislature on Wednesday. During the inauguration of the first session, President Kiir emphasized the importance of preparing for the upcoming December general elections.
Under the theme “Together building a better future through parliamentary consensus,” the session set the tone for a collaborative approach towards steering the nation forward. President Kiir urged political parties to resolve issues democratically and shun violence, highlighting the need for unity and progress.
“Our economy faces challenges from global factors, leading to issues like currency depreciation. We must diversify revenues and increase local production for economic stability,” President Kiir remarked, acknowledging the impact on citizens’ livelihoods. He also announced government initiatives to secure fuel and essential commodities supply.
Furthermore, President Kiir directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to revitalize agricultural projects nationwide to enhance food production. The completion of the Air Traffic Control System was also highlighted as a milestone, enabling South Sudan to take control of its airspace, facilitate airline registration, and tax collection.
Encouraging investment and job creation for the youth, President Kiir invited both domestic and foreign investors to support the country’s development agenda. Speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba echoed this sentiment, affirming the National Parliament’s commitment to ensuring all election prerequisites are met for a smooth and successful electoral process.
The renewed focus on democratic governance and economic development sets a positive tone for South Sudan’s future, with hopes for progress and stability under President Kiir’s leadership.
