South Sudan’s NLA Speaker Urges SPLM Members to Foster Peace and Unity during Swearing-In Ceremony

On Wednesday, Rt. Hon. Dr. Jemma Nunu Kumba, the Speaker of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), called on newly appointed members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) to uphold the party’s foundational dreams and work towards maintaining peace across the nation. The remarks came during the swearing-in ceremony for various SPLM officials, including the Deputy Governor and chairperson of SPLM in Western Equatoria, Hon. Daniel Badagbu Rimbasa, and the Chairperson of the Women’s League.

During the ceremony, which took place in the capital, Dr. Kumba emphasized the necessity for collaboration among SPLM-IG members to fulfill their obligations towards the people of South Sudan. She commended the newly appointed officials, offering her heartfelt congratulations to Cde. David Yau Yau, Cde. Daniel Badagbu, Warrap State Chairperson Cde. Francis, and Cde. Abuk for their well-deserved roles in the Women’s League.

“The Women’s League has been the only structure that has not been fully organized since the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), making this assignment particularly special,” Kumba stated, underscoring the importance of unity within the party.

Acknowledging the vital role of peace in progress, she urged party members to actively engage in the management of party affairs in their respective states. “Without peace and stability, we cannot move forward. It is imperative that we work to maintain lasting peace in South Sudan. Let us stand together and support our comrades,” she urged.

Kumba expressed her appreciation to South Sudan’s President, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, for his consistent leadership and support of the SPLM. Furthermore, she highlighted the urgency of resolving ongoing conflicts in Abyei, calling on the Governor of Warrap to foster unity and collaboration among the communities.

In closing, Kumba reiterated the importance of dedication to the SPLM agenda, declaring, “This is a call to each of you to actively engage in managing party affairs within your states.” Her appeal aims not only to solidify the goals of the SPLM but also to promote a path of peace and stability for South Sudan.
