By Majur Chol Khor
December 18th, 2023, In his New Year message, Dr. Gai Chol Paul, Chairman of the People’s United Forum, emphasized the urgent need for change in South Sudan. Acknowledging the nation’s enduring challenges of insecurity, poverty, illiteracy, and underdevelopment, Dr. Paul called upon all South Sudanese to unite and bring about a transformation that prioritizes the well-being of the people.
The current leadership, headed by President Salva Kiir and his colleagues, has been criticized for failing to deliver on the promises made during the nation’s liberation struggle. Despite the sacrifices made by countless South Sudanese, the nation continues to grapple with instability and a lack of progress. Corruption, mismanagement, and a disregard for citizen welfare have overshadowed the people’s aspirations for a prosperous and peaceful South Sudan.
Dr. Paul stressed the need for a new direction, one that addresses the root causes of the nation’s challenges and liberates the people from the shackles of insecurity, poverty, illiteracy, and underdevelopment. With the 2024 elections approaching, he emphasized the power citizens hold to effect change through their votes.
Breaking free from the grip of the current cartel that has been looting the nation, Dr. Paul called for leadership that prioritizes the needs of the people. It is vital to elect individuals who are committed to dismantling the existing system of corruption and placing citizen welfare at the forefront.
“South Sudan deserves leaders who will tirelessly work towards creating a fair and just society, where opportunities are accessible to all and where the prosperity of the people is paramount. By voting for such leaders, the nation can pave the way for a brighter future where the voices of the people are heard and respected,” Said Dr. Paul.
Addressing the issue of territorial disputes with neighboring countries, Dr. Paul highlighted that the theft of land is not only a matter of boundaries but an assault on national identity and heritage. Encroachments upon South Sudan’s borders have undermined sovereignty and national security. Dr. Paul emphasized the necessity of electing leaders with the courage and determination to reclaim what rightfully belongs to the nation.
Highlighting South Sudan’s history of resilience, Dr. Paul called for leaders who can unite the people, strengthen their resolve, and tirelessly pursue the restoration of stolen land.
In his last statement, the Chairman urged South Sudanese to rally behind the People’s United Forum, which is committed to fostering unity, progress, and prosperity for all. As they bid farewell to the challenges and uncertainties of the past year, Dr. Paul encouraged citizens to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead with renewed vigor and determination.
He extended his warmest wishes to all and urged them to join hands in shaping a brighter and more promising future for South Sudan, built on inclusivity, fairness, and justice.
