By Jackson Gaaniko
The Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State, H.E. Elia Richard Box, has wrapped up a productive three-day official visit to Tambura County, marking the commencement of his tour spanning the western regions of the state, including Nagero, Ezo, and Nzara.
Reports from the Deputy Governor’s Press Secretary, Joseph Arkangelo Apai, indicated that the purpose of the visit was to introduce the Deputy Governor and assess the prevailing conditions in these counties. However, due to inclement weather and infrastructure challenges along the way to Nagero County, that part of the tour had to be rescheduled. Apai reassured that the pending counties would receive special attention and be visited promptly.
Accompanying the Deputy Governor on this tour were the State Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, along with six members of the Western Equatoria State Legislative Assembly. The visit to Tambura saw the Deputy Governor engage in a public rally and visit internally displaced persons (IDPs) at various camps, including the Army Barracks, UNMISS, and St. Mary camps.
Addressing the public rally, the Deputy Governor emphasized the importance of peace and unity as catalysts for progress in Western Equatoria State. He urged the youth of Tambura to shun violence and criminal activities, particularly against vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly.
During the tour, the Deputy Governor extended an invitation to his brother, comrade Mboriman Edward Mbory, an aspiring candidate for the Western Equatoria Governorship, to join him. Together, they briefed the community on the upcoming inter-payam tournament in Greater Tambura, highlighting plans to organize a peaceful and inclusive competition.
Mboriman pledged to refurbish the shelter at Tambura Freedom Square and assured support in the form of cash and food items for various groups and IDPs, demonstrating a commitment to improving the welfare of the local population.
The conclusion of the Deputy Governor’s successful tour sets a positive tone for future engagements across Western Equatoria State, signaling a strong focus on community engagement, development, and collaboration between government officials and the populace.
