The Mayor of Yambio County, Western Equatoria State, has urged the youth to avoid criminal behaviour, stressing the importance of maintaining peace and security in the region.
In a media briefing on Monday, John Singira Miariewari expressed concern over the recent rise in criminal attacks within the Yambio Town Municipality. He revealed that incidents in recent weeks have resulted in injuries, including two members of the unified forces and a civilian. Additionally, properties, particularly those belonging to vendors operating at night near Masia, have been lost or damaged.
Singira also reported the escape of a suspect from Yambio Central Prison on Sunday. State authorities, in collaboration with the police, are actively working to recapture the fugitive.
“These incidents are occurring due to a lack of proper oversight by those responsible for managing the situation,” the mayor stated.
He appealed to the youth of Western Equatoria State to steer clear of criminal activities, emphasizing that such acts negatively affect the entire region. Singira called for stronger prison management to prevent further escapes and reduce crime.
The mayor also urged security departments to collaborate in apprehending and prosecuting those responsible for disturbing the peace. He called on community leaders to identify and report individuals involved in criminal activities to enable authorities to take appropriate action.
Finally, Singira appealed for cooperation between community leaders and security forces in every settlement to maintain peace and security across the state.
