Regional Forces in Gangura Payam are Urged to Lead Intensive Farming Efforts for Economic Growth
By Emmanuel Mandella
In an attempt to bolster agricultural productivity and stimulate economic growth in Western Equatoria State and South Sudan as a whole, the regional forces stationed in Gangura Payam of Yambio County have been encouraged to spearhead intensive farming initiatives. The call to action came during the weekend by the Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State, Col. Dr. Kennedy Gaaniko Baime, who commended the forces for their proactive approach to farming since their deployment to Gangura Payam following a failed mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Speaking during his visit to the forces’ base, Deputy Governor Baime emphasized the fundamental role of agriculture in fostering economic prosperity, stating that they should double their efforts and cultivate for both commercial purposes and consumption.
“You should cultivate one hectare and grow an additional five hectares for sale, thereby boosting the economic growth of the region,” he declared.
This directive underscores the significance of agriculture as a driving force for sustainable development, not only for civilians but also for military personnel. He stressed the importance of upholding the integrity of the nation and the state, noting that “The President of the Republic of South Sudan has called upon all citizens, including regional forces and the SSPDF, to prioritize agriculture as a means to alleviate economic hardships.” This aligns with the broader national agenda to promote self-sufficiency and food security through agricultural production.
Furthermore, Deputy Governor Baime issued a stern warning against inappropriate behavior, reminding the soldiers to respect the sanctity of marriage and focus on their agricultural endeavors while providing protection to the citizens of South Sudan. “Do not interfere with people’s spouses; instead, channel your
efforts towards cultivating food,” he admonished.
As a gesture of support and appreciation, Deputy Governor Baime presented a bull to the regional forces to enhance their dietary provisions. This token of goodwill underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of its military personnel, recognizing their sacrifices and dedication to duty.
As the regional forces in Gangura Payam embrace their role as agricultural pioneers, their dedication to intensive farming serves as a testament to the transformative power of agriculture in driving economic progress and fostering resilience in the face of challenges. With continued support from government officials and concerted efforts from all stakeholders, Gangura Payam is poised to emerge as a model for sustainable development and agricultural innovation in Western Equatoria State and beyond.
