Nairobi Peace Talks Foster Trust and Confidence Among Political Leaders for Genuine Implementation of Peace Agreement

In the ongoing Nairobi Peace Talks, Mr. Edmund Yakani, the Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), emphasized the importance of innovative approaches in nurturing trust and confidence among political leaders. These efforts are crucial for handling matters of political will, commitment, and funding towards the successful implementation of peace agreements.

“At least now in the Nairobi Peace Talks, we manage to create innovative approaches for nurturing trust and confidence among political leaders for handling matters of political will and commitment, funding the implementation of the agreement, and opening political and civic space for genuine implementation of the peace agreement,” Yakani stated.

He highlighted that the hindrances to the genuine implementation of peace agreements often require a shift in political attitudes from resistance to acceptance. Building trust and confidence among political leaders is essential for fostering positive attitudes conducive to successful transitions from violence to peace.

Yakani concluded by urging national, regional, and international actors to adopt a positive approach and embrace measures aimed at regaining trust and confidence. He emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring the genuine implementation of peace agreements.
