AMDISS and UNESCO Launch Two-Day Training for Journalists and Security Agencies in Yambio

Aiming to strengthen the relationship between journalists and security agencies in Yambio, Western Equatoria State, the Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) and UNESCO have jointly organized a two-day training session. The training, which commenced today, focuses on enhancing understanding of roles, legal frameworks, and the safety of journalists.
Hon. Isaac Mursal Timon, Minister of Information and Communication for Western Equatoria State, highlighted the significance of the training, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect between journalists and security agencies. He stressed the need for freedom of information access and the dissemination of accurate reporting, particularly as South Sudan prepares for upcoming elections in December.
Chairperson of AMDISS, Mrs. Josephine Achiro, reiterated the organization’s dedication to addressing challenges faced by journalists and championing the crucial role of information in society. She urged government institutions to support the involvement of women in journalism and emphasized the necessity of better financial support for journalists to enhance their welfare and performance.
Representing UNESCO, Mrs. Doreen Loboka, a Communication and Information Specialist, emphasized the organization’s mission to raise awareness and improve access to information. Encouraging the use of common languages and local dialects by journalists, Loboka highlighted the importance of ensuring information is easily understandable by the public.
The training, attended by over 30 participants from diverse sectors including journalists and security agencies, is scheduled to conclude on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, with the aim of fostering stronger relationships and promoting effective information dissemination.
