Modong Manuela Mogga, Project Manager of Amref Health Africa South Sudan, has made an urgent plea for immediate support from partners, stakeholders, and the city council to address the alarming waste management crisis at Juba Teaching Hospital. This call comes as the hospital grapples with a cholera outbreak that has intensified the challenges related to inadequate waste disposal.

“The issue of waste is a challenge in South Sudan, particularly in Juba. It’s the same in health facilities,” Mogga stated.

Mogga stressed that support can manifest in various forms, whether financial or material resources, as long as it contributes to implementing effective waste management systems, including waste segregation. She pointed out that such measures are essential for ensuring that the hospital can deliver quality healthcare services in a clean and safe environment. Additionally, Mogga raised concerns about water accessibility, underscoring its importance in improving overall health outcomes.

This urgent appeal follows a two-day cleaning and open-day event organized by the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Juba Teaching Hospital, in partnership with Amref Health Africa and supported by UNFPA, along with the Association of Gynecologists and Obstetricians of South Sudan. The event was aimed at promoting health awareness and showcasing advancements in maternal and reproductive healthcare services.

The initiative highlights the hospital’s dedication to enhancing maternal and reproductive health outcomes while fostering collaborations to improve healthcare delivery in the region.
