A four-day training program focused on conflict resolution for Central Equatoria state parliamentarians concluded on Saturday in Juba, organized by the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative in collaboration with the Central Equatoria State Ministry of Peacebuilding.
James Wani, Director for Peacebuilding in the Ministry, highlighted the importance of the training in equipping the 50 Members of the State Parliament with conflict resolution mechanisms to effectively address issues such as land grabbing, security, and peace building in their constituencies.
“This training provides the parliamentarians with the tools to tackle critical issues affecting citizens, such as land disputes and promoting peace in communities across Central Equatoria state,” said James Wani.
Program Coordinator of Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative, Bush Buse, emphasized that the training was essential for parliamentarians to understand their role in decision-making and governance, urging for further capacity building initiatives for state officials in Juba County, Juba City Council, and parliamentarians to combat land grabbing issues.
Chairperson for Peace and Security in the State Legislative Assembly, Hon. Isaac Aloro Lomodi, expressed gratitude towards the Initiative for organizing the training and underlined the importance of parliamentarians disseminating peace and unity messages within their constituencies.
Hon. Maka Mustafa, Head of the Legislative Committee in the State Legislative Assembly, noted that the training would enhance the ability of parliamentarians to advocate for peace, good governance, transparency, and effective laws in Central Equatoria state.
