CEPO Urges Communities Affected by Floods to Reject Violence Amid Climate Change Challenges

In a bid to address the rising tensions and potential for violence in communities ravaged by floods, the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) is advocating for peaceful conflict resolution methods. Mr. Edmund Yakani, the Executive Director of CEPO, emphasizes the importance of preventing any form of violence amidst the shocks caused by climate change-related disasters.

Yakani highlights the increased risk of violence in states affected by floods and stresses the need for leadership at all levels to engage with affected communities on strategies to maintain peace during trying times. CEPO is calling on national and state ministries of peace building to prioritize public messaging that promotes non-violence and protection of vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities, patients, and the elderly.

Furthermore, CEPO plans to collaborate with governmental authorities at both national and state levels to formulate a comprehensive response strategy to address the challenges posed by floods. By fostering dialogue and advocating for peaceful resolutions, CEPO seeks to create a safer and more resilient environment for communities grappling with the impact of climate change-induced disasters.
