Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State Calls for Love and Unity Amidst Public Address
By Jackson Gaaniko
In a compelling public address at Yambio Freedom Square, the recently appointed Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State, His Excellency Elia Richard Box, has issued a fervent appeal to all residents to prioritize peace and unity within the region.
Deputy Governor Elia Richard Box underscored the critical need to transcend tribalism and refrain from inciting divisions along tribal lines in order to safeguard peace and stability. Drawing inspiration from King Atoroba Peni Rikito of the Azande tribe, who united individuals across various counties and Payams, he advocated for a harmonious coexistence built on mutual respect and understanding.
Encouraging proactive engagement from all citizens to foster enduring peace, the Deputy Governor directed a special message to the youth, urging them to eschew idleness and diversionary activities such as card games, and instead actively seek employment opportunities or undertake entrepreneurial ventures. He stressed the importance of embracing any available work, regardless of academic qualifications, citing the significance of self-reliance and industriousness.
In alignment with his commitment to collaboration across the political spectrum, Deputy Governor Box assured close cooperation with all parties represented in the government of Western Equatoria State to uphold the tenets of the revitalized peace agreement.
Laying out his vision for a transformed Western Equatoria State, the Deputy Governor highlighted key pillars including security, agriculture, education, and healthcare. He envisioned a future where citizens can traverse roads without fear, access ample food resources to combat issues like street children and unknown gunmen, receive quality education to enhance global competitiveness, and have comprehensive healthcare services catering to the needs of vulnerable populations.
Deputy Governor Elia Richard Box’s address resonated as a poignant call for collective action towards building a unified and prosperous Western Equatoria State, standing as his inaugural public statement since assuming office under the auspices of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
