Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: 50,000 USD Dummy Cheque Presented to Juba and Terekeka Business Groups

Juba, 26th July 2024 – In a heartwarming collaboration between The Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative (WPDI) and SkinnyDipped Foundation, a total of 118 deserving women from disadvantaged areas in Juba and Terekeka have successfully completed a transformative three-month business and Entrepreneurship skills course. To commemorate this milestone, each group has been presented with a significant boost in the form of a dummy cheque totaling 50,000 USD.

In a generous gesture towards economic empowerment, Terekeka County will receive 20,000 USD while Juba County will benefit from 30,000 USD. Each VSLA group will have 5,000 USD deposited into their bank accounts as revolving funds to assist them in either launching or expanding their businesses.

“We are delighted to witness the dedication and growth displayed by these remarkable women throughout their training,” remarked a representative from WPDI. “This financial assistance is intended to support their entrepreneurial aspirations and make a meaningful impact in their families and communities.”

The collaborative effort involving WPDI, County Administrations, the CES Women Union, and the state Ministry of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare aims to provide continual mentorship and monitoring support to ensure the successful implementation of the women’s business initiatives.

The Minister of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare expressed deep appreciation for the governor of CES’s commitment to backing cooperative groups in the region.

“These women, upon evolving into cooperative societies, will have access to the promised support, fostering sustainable growth and empowerment within their communities,” she affirmed.

The presentation of the dummy cheque symbolizes a new chapter of opportunity and progress for the women entrepreneurs of Juba and Terekeka, marking a significant step towards economic independence and positive change.
