Yambio – Sweet J, a prominent South Sudanese musician, has called upon the government of South Sudan to prioritize peace and love among its citizens.

Fresh from her trip to India as a guest of the Azande Students Association, Sweet J spoke to the press about the crucial need for unity and harmony in South Sudan.

“Artists in other nations are esteemed because they thrive in an environment of peace and love,” she observed.

Drawing on the nation’s historical journey, Sweet J urged both the government and civilians to uphold the spirit of unity that was prevalent during the referendum for independence.

“We require peace, unity, self-determination, stability, food, education, and medical facilities. We must all aspire for peace in our beloved nation, South Sudan,” she passionately conveyed.

As the country gears up for upcoming elections, Sweet J stressed the government’s responsibility to work towards preserving peace. “The populace is weary of conflict,” she asserted.

Directing her message to her fellow artists, Sweet J encouraged a collaborative effort to use music as a tool for promoting peace. “Let’s compose songs that uplift our country, unite our people, and enlighten our communities. Let’s transcend competition and concentrate on unity,” she urged.

Acknowledging the difficulties faced by musicians in South Sudan, particularly in remote regions like Western Equatoria State where internet connectivity is limited, Sweet J underlined the obstacles hindering the marketing of music products.

Expressing her appreciation, Sweet J extended her gratitude to the Azande Students Association for the privilege of participating in an international tour to India, marking her third global venture after visits to Congo and Kenya.

Also known by her birth name, Ngbandurezere Joy Enosa Mbaraza, Sweet J has been an integral figure in the music industry for 19 years and is poised to celebrate her 20th anniversary in 2025. She embarked on her musical odyssey with the Mbaraza Gospel Band in 2005 and holds a bachelor’s degree in social work and social administration from St Lawrence University, graduating among the top students with first-class honors.

Sweet J is gearing up to unveil new tracks, including “Ambara ta Mohaba,” “Mohaba tai Tahamu,” and a collaboration titled “Gbagba” featuring Smigo.
