Foreign Affairs Minister Calls for Lifting Sanctions on South Sudan at Antalya Diplomatic Forum 2024
The first day of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum 2024 saw Amb. Hon. Dr James Pitia Morgan, South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, taking a stand for his country’s development. During a panel discussion focused on empowering the least developed countries, Minister Morgan urged for support in lifting the sanctions imposed on South Sudan, emphasizing their hindrance to the country’s progress.
Highlighting the importance of the United Nations’ role in advocating for its member states and serving as their voice, Minister Morgan called for the active involvement of the UN in seeking the removal of sanctions that impede South Sudan’s development.
The ongoing Antalya Diplomatic Forum, scheduled from 1st until March 3, 2024, has brought together an array of global leaders including heads of state, government officials, diplomats, business leaders, academics, think-tankers, and representatives from youth and media. Under the theme “Advancing Diplomacy in Times of Turmoil,” the forum aims to facilitate comprehensive discussions and explore peaceful solutions to the global challenges the world is currently facing.
Accompanying Hon. Morgan at the forum are South Sudan’s Ambassador to Türkiye, H.E. Ambassador Majok Guandong, and the Director for European Affairs, Ambassador Morris Batali. Their presence underscores South Sudan’s commitment to engaging with the international community in addressing critical global issues.
