Jamnel Care Leads the Charge in Combatting Gender-Based Violence in South Sudan

By Denilson Denike

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) persist as critical issues in South Sudan, deeply rooted in the repercussions of conflict, displacement, and entrenched cultural norms. Predominantly affecting women and girls, these forms of violence encompass domestic abuse, sexual assault, and forced marriages, leaving survivors not only traumatized but also ostracized within their communities, hindering their access to vital support services.

Jamnel Care has emerged as a pivotal force in the fight against GBV and SGBV, championing the protection of women and girls through grassroots advocacy efforts. By engaging local communities in awareness campaigns focused on human rights, gender parity, and the urgency of ending violence against women, Jamnel Care empowers individuals and fosters a culture of respect and equality. The organization extends vital assistance to survivors, ranging from counseling to legal aid, while advocating for enhanced legislation that guarantees justice and safeguarding for victims.

Despite strides forward, South Sudan confronts persistent challenges in completely eradicating GBV and SGBV. Proactive measures include ongoing community education, the establishment of safe havens for survivors, and the enhancement of training for law enforcement and healthcare professionals to handle cases with empathy and expertise. Through dedicated collaboration and sustained action, a future beckons where women and girls can thrive in a society free from the specter of fear and violence.
