Minister Admits Diverting Peace Funds: Parliament Demands Clarification

In a startling admission, Cabinet Affairs Minister Dr. Elia Lomuro disclosed diverting 15 billion pounds intended for peace implementation to special projects within the Office of the President. This revelation came after a parliamentary inquiry into the whereabouts of the funds.

The National Assembly summoned key government figures, including Dr. Lomuro, Finance and Planning Minister Eng Awow Daniel, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Ruben Madol, and Bank of South Sudan Governor Dr. James Alic to shed light on the transfer of millions of dollars. First Deputy Speaker Oyet Nathaniel emphasized the need for transparency regarding the allocation and utilization of approximately $10 million in South Sudan Pound (SSP) directed to Dr. Lomuro’s ministry.

The funds were designated for crucial aspects of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (RASs), as well as for executing the roadmap and various special initiatives. Parliamentary scrutiny intensifies as government officials are tasked with providing a detailed account of these financial decisions.
