MTN South Sudan Announces New CEO and Vision for Future Growth

Juba – MTN South Sudan made a significant announcement yesterday at a staff town hall event held at the Crown Hotel in Juba. Monzer Ali was introduced as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN South Sudan, effective April 1, 2024, marking a pivotal moment for the telecommunications company.

Bringing with him over 23 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, Monzer Ali has demonstrated his expertise by holding progressively senior positions at MTN since 2004. His most recent role had been serving as the Chief Technology and Information Officer of MTN Uganda.

The transition was warmly welcomed by Andrew John Bugembe, who assumed the role of Chairman of the Board in November 2023 while also serving as CFO of MTN Uganda. Bugembe emphasized the significance of South Sudanese culture and people, praising Monzer Ali’s passion and ability to drive results.

Outgoing CEO Gordian Kyomukama, who has led the company for four years, expressed his gratitude to the staff and leadership for their support during his tenure. He specifically acknowledged the unwavering support from the Vice President’s Office and the MTN Group, as well as the dedicated staff who remained invested in the company during his absence from the country in 2021.

Yolanda Cuba CA(SA), VP-SEA, echoed the appreciation for Gordian Kyomukama’s leadership, highlighting his strong affinity for the staff, the country, and the people of South Sudan.

In his inaugural speech, Monzer Ali outlined his vision for MTN South Sudan, emphasizing a “people-first” approach to leadership. He highlighted five key pillars that will guide his leadership, including a focus on employee well-being and empowerment, building trust through ethical values and open communication, driving execution excellence, promoting internal competition and benchmarking, as well as prioritizing network and system optimization and operational efficiency.

Ali concluded by expressing his commitment to working closely with the entire MTN South Sudan team, reflecting his dedication to their success and the future growth of the company.
