On Friday, August 16, 2024, in Yambio, Western Equatoria State (WES), the newly appointed Commissioner for Mvolo County, Honorable Rubben Amaai Majok, was sworn in at the WES secretariat.
Honorable Amaai, at 31 years old, is the youngest commissioner in the Republic of South Sudan. His appointment came through a decree by the Governor of Western Equatoria State, Honorable Alfred Futuyo Karaba.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Amaai pledged to bring peace and unity to Mvolo County. The county had been without a commissioner since John Komodi was suspended from office.
In his speech, Commissioner Rubben Amaai emphasized that he is not a “small boy” because he has two wives and will lead the county and its people accordingly.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by WES Governor Lt. Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba, WES Deputy Governor H.E. Richard Box, commissioners, state ministers, and other government officials.
Comrade Rubben Amai now holds the distinction of being the youngest commissioner in South Sudan, serving as the County Commissioner of Mvolo County in Western Equatoria State.
On August 7, 2024, President Kiir appointed Rubben Amai to replace John Kum, who had been suspended by WES Governor H.E. Lt. Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba approximately two months earlier. Rubben Amai, formerly a Protocol Officer in the Office of the Governor, now assumes the role of Commissioner for Mvolo County.
