Plan International and Ministry of Agriculture Partner to Enhance Food Security in South Sudan
In a significant development aimed at bolstering sustainable agriculture, enhancing food security, and empowering communities in South Sudan, Plan International South Sudan, led by Country Director Mr. Mohamad Kamal, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, represented by Undersecretary Dr. John Ogoto Kanisio, came together to sign a memorandum of understanding.
The partnership signifies a crucial stride towards fostering agricultural sustainability and community empowerment within the region. Dr. Kanisio expressed appreciation for Plan International’s strategic approach in capacitating communities to achieve self-reliance. He highlighted the paramount importance of building resilience among South Sudanese communities to mitigate reliance on humanitarian aid and foster long-term sustainability.
Moreover, in recognition of Plan International’s contributions and expertise in the field, the Undersecretary designated the organization to join the national taskforce for Water Resources and Food Security, alongside prominent stakeholders such as UN agencies and key government offices.
Plan International’s ongoing food security initiatives across four states – Upper Nile, Lakes State, Central and Eastern Equatoria – underscore its unwavering commitment to improving livelihoods and fostering sustainable development in South Sudan.
