President Kiir Engages UN Leadership to Navigate South Sudan’s Path to Democracy and Stability

President Salva Kiir Mayardit convened with Nicholas Haysom, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, and his Deputy, Guang Cong. The discussion focused on South Sudan’s strides towards a stable and democratic future, especially in light of the upcoming elections.

With the recent political climate presenting a myriad of challenges, the leaders addressed the critical need for robust governmental involvement to ensure peace and stability as the nation approaches crucial polls. Both President Kiir and the UN representatives recognized the importance of fostering an inclusive peace process, with particular focus on the Tumaini initiative, a pivotal program aimed at enhancing dialogue among factions.
