President Kiir Signs Compact on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, Pledges Commitment to SDGs

In a landmark move towards ensuring universal access to clean water and sanitation in South Sudan, President Salva Kiir Mayardit has officially signed the Compact on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene.

The President expressed gratitude to the development partners for their support in this crucial initiative, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in saving lives and improving public health across the country.

“We are determined to prioritize the well-being of our people by providing essential services such as clean water and proper sanitation,” President Kiir affirmed during the signing ceremony.

Anita Kiki Gbeho, the United Nations Deputy Special Representative, who led the donor team, hailed South Sudan’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the signing of the Compact. She emphasized the significance of such partnerships in achieving global targets for water and sanitation access.

Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Pal Mai Deng, highlighted the strategic importance of the Heads of State Initiative Compact on Water and Sanitation as the foundation for detailed plans to develop crucial water and sanitation infrastructure in the country.

With President Kiir’s unwavering support and the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, South Sudan is set to make significant strides towards improving the living conditions and health outcomes of its citizens through enhanced access to clean water and sanitation facilities.
