President of WES Athletics Association Appeals for Athletics Materials and Office Space
By Jackson Gaaniko
In a press conference, Mr. Alison Aliminio Wande, the President of the Western Equatoria State Athletics Association, made an appeal to the government, partners, and other well-wishers to support Yambio local athletics with scholastic materials.
Mr. Wande expressed his gratitude towards Hon. Quinta, Hon. Dr. Festo Kumba, Hon. George Kosta, the state government, partners, and the mobilizing team for their continuous support of the Western Equatoria State Athletics Federation.
During the event, it was announced that Yambio Local Athletics Association received a generous donation of 150,000 SSP from National Member of Parliament, Hon. Quinta. This pledge was made during the JICA games in Juba back in March 2023. Mr. Wande expressed his appreciation for Hon. Quinta’s support.
Mr. Nelson Mubarak, the Secretary of Yambio Local Athletics, also highlighted the urgent need for support. He revealed that the team is currently lacking boots, clothes, and other necessary equipment. Mr. Mubarak called upon all well-wishers to come forward and support their cause.
During the handover ceremony, Hon. George Costa explained that the delay in delivering the pledge was due to the fact that the athletics had already left Juba for Yambio. However, he ensured that the donation would be handed over to the rightful owners.
Since its establishment in January 2023, the Athletics body has received financial and kind support from politicians, national MPs, and well-wishers. Mr. Wande emphasized the importance of promoting sports as it promotes peace, love, unity, and positively impacts the mindset of the youth.
In an exciting development, Mr. Nelson Mubarak announced that the team will be representing the state in Juba at the end of this month. With the support of the community, they hope to make Western Equatoria State proud once again.
