President Ruto Arrives in South Sudan for Crucial Peace Talks

President William Samoei Ruto has officially arrived in Juba for pivotal discussions with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit, focusing on the peace process known as the Tumaini Initiative.

The visit comes on the heels of President Ruto’s recent meetings with both a government delegation and representatives of opposition parties involved in the Tumaini Initiative, held in Nairobi last week.

During these discussions, both groups expressed their eagerness to endorse the Tumaini Consensus, a framework emerging from comprehensive and inclusive negotiations aimed at fostering peace and stability in South Sudan.

Kenya has been playing a significant role as a mediator, hosting ongoing discussions between the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity and various stakeholders to further the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the South Sudan Peace Agreement.

As the peace talks progress, hopes remain high for a strengthened commitment to resolving long-standing issues and restoring peace in the region.
