The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) South Sudan and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of South Sudan have signed a new work plan, marking a continued strategic partnership focused on advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) across the nation. The agreement aims to strengthen national systems to tackle pressing issues, including unmet family planning needs, preventable maternal deaths, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and harmful traditional practices like child marriage.

Hon. Harriet Pasquale Akello, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, expressed enthusiasm for the renewed collaboration. “As a ministry, we are happy with the great and long-standing partnership the Ministry of Health – Republic of South Sudan and UNFPA South Sudan has had, this partnership dates back to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement –CPA era, this work plan is so much aligned with our strategic plan,” she stated.

Suzanne Mandong, Officer-in-Charge of UNFPA South Sudan, emphasized the importance of the partnership. She highlighted South Sudan’s status as a priority country for UNFPA. “We applaud Ministry of Health – Republic of South Sudan for upholding the #ICPD agenda, we look forward to addressing  the #3Zeros,” Mandong stated. The “3 Zeros” refer to UNFPA’s global commitment to achieving zero preventable maternal deaths, zero unmet need for family planning, and zero gender-based violence and harmful practices.
