South Sudan Civil Society Alliance Cheers Political Parties Council’s 1.5 Billion Pounds Allocation
In a significant move towards bolstering multiparty democracy and enhancing the electoral process in South Sudan, the Chairperson of South Sudan Civil Society Alliance (SSCSA), Mr. Debak Mabior Arok, has expressed enthusiasm regarding the recent allocation of 1.5 billion pounds to eligible political parties by the Political Parties Council.
“We, the South Sudan Civil Society Alliance, warmly welcome the Political Parties Council’s allocation of 1.5 billion pounds, as it is a crucial step towards promoting multiparty democracy and expediting the electoral processes for the December 2024 election,” stated Debak.
Highlighting the importance of the financial support, Debak added, “This allocation aims to encourage multiparty systems, enhance democracy, foster domestic competition, and bridge the financial gap among political parties. We believe that a well-funded election process is essential for ensuring transparency and enabling every party to effectively communicate their programs and mission statements to the people of South Sudan.”
The initiative has been well-received by various political parties, with proponents emphasizing the necessity of government funding to allow all parties to compete on an equal footing and garner sufficient attention from the populace. Additionally, in line with the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), such financial support will aid parties in conducting civic awareness campaigns and promoting active participation among citizens.
The latest development underscores a collaborative effort towards building a more inclusive and participatory political landscape in South Sudan, setting a positive tone for the upcoming electoral activities.
