South Sudan Football Association Delegation Engages in FIFA’s 74th General Assembly Discussions
Representing the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA), a delegation led by President Augustino Maduot, Mr. Thiong John SSFA Board member and chairman of the players status Committee, and Victor Lawrence Lual SSFA Secretary General actively participated in the recently held 74th FIFA General Assembly in Bangkok, Thailand. The assembly witnessed crucial decisions and discussions shaping the future of international football.
During the assembly, Brazil emerged victorious in securing the hosting rights for the 2027 Women’s World Cup after garnering 119 votes, surpassing the joint bid put forth by the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.
Noteworthy developments at the assembly included the approval of amendments to various articles in the FIFA statute. An important proposal brought forth by FIFA President Gianni Infantino highlighted plans to organize an Under-15 football festival, welcoming participation from all 211 FIFA Member Associations. Furthermore, Infantino announced the expansion of FIFA’s U-20 and U-17 tournaments, envisioning a broader platform for young talents to showcase their skills.
In addressing a pressing global concern, Infantino unveiled a comprehensive anti-racism program grounded on five pillars. He emphasized the significance of unity among FIFA Member Associations in eradicating racism from the sport.
Responding to a proposal by Palestine to suspend Israel from international soccer due to the conflict with Hamas, FIFA opted to seek legal counsel before convening an extraordinary council meeting within the next two months to deliberate on this sensitive issue.
The engagement of the SSFA delegation at the FIFA 74th General Assembly signifies South Sudan’s commitment to being an active participant in the global football community.
