South Sudan Music Promoter Launches First Music Competition to Foster Peace in Western Equatoria State

The South Sudan Music Promoter is set to launch its inaugural music competition in Western Equatoria State, marking a significant step in promoting local musical talent and harnessing the power of music for peace. This pilot event aims to celebrate and elevate the contributions of South Sudanese musicians since the country gained independence in 2011.

Mr. Edmund Yakani, the founder of the South Sudan Music Promoter, emphasized that the initiative serves as a crucial platform for showcasing the country’s musical achievements and creating opportunities within national, regional, and international markets. “Music connects distant hearts in seconds through the universal language of song. It fosters connections and promotes peace, steering us away from violence,” he stated.

Yakani further highlighted the necessity of using music as a tool for nurturing peace and stability in a nation that has faced prolonged political struggles and division. “The time has come for us to embrace peace through music, rather than allow ourselves to be driven by the political conflicts that have plagued us for so long,” he declared.

The music competition is envisioned as a vehicle for musicians to unite the community through their art, with Yakani stressing the urgency of this initiative. “The moment for promoting peace through music is now, not tomorrow,” he asserted.

In conclusion, Mr. Yakani pledged to leverage his extensive networks to ensure that this music initiative plays a pivotal role in fostering common peaceful coexistence among South Sudan’s citizens. The upcoming competition is anticipated not only to spotlight local talent but also to reinforce the message that music can be a unifying force in a country striving for harmony and stability.
