South Sudanese Civil Society Calls for Release of Detained Individuals in Respect of Human Rights and Rule of Law
In a heartfelt appeal to the leadership of South Sudan, Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of the community empowerment for progress organization (CEPO), has urged for the immediate release of former Juba City Mayor Kalisto Lado and other detained individuals. Addressing the pressing issue with great respect and honor, Yakani emphasized the importance of upholding human rights and applying the rule of law in a constructive manner.
Yakani highlighted that while some detainees have been released and reunited with their families, the continued detention of individuals such as Kalisto Lado has caused distress among their loved ones and the broader South Sudanese community. He stressed that regardless of any allegations or grievances against them, all individuals deserve to be treated fairly and have their cases brought before a court of law.
The call for justice extends beyond Kalisto Lado to include others who are still in detention, including Jack Peter Mabior Morris and the recent detainee, Benjamin, a youth leader of the Lopit community. Yakani appealed to the authorities and political leadership to demonstrate respect for human rights and the rule of law without bias or discrimination.
In a plea for compassion and reconciliation, Yakani urged for the release of all individuals under detention, emphasizing the need for unity and respect in the pursuit of justice. The civil society’s voice echoes the sentiments of many South Sudanese citizens who seek a fair and just system that upholds the fundamental rights of all individuals.
As the call for the release of Kalisto Lado and others grows stronger, South Sudan stands at a critical juncture where the principles of justice, human rights, and reconciliation must guide the actions of its leaders. The appeal from Edmund Yakani and Cepo serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting the rule of law and ensuring the protection of all individuals, regardless of their circumstances.
In closing, Yakani expressed his hope for a swift resolution to the detainment of Kalisto Lado and others, urging for their release to reunite with their families and communities. The call for justice and respect for human rights continues to resound in South Sudan, emphasizing the need for unity, compassion, and adherence to the principles of a just and fair society.
