SSFA Partners with UNFPA and IHO to Promote Human Rights and Gender Equality in South Sudan Women’s Football
In a bid to champion human rights, gender equality, and peace-building through sports, the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) partnered with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Impact Health Organization (IHO) to conduct a one-day workshop for teams participating in the South Sudan Women’s Cup 2023/2024 in Juba zone.
The workshop, held under the theme ‘LET US UNITE,’ aimed to empower players with knowledge on sexual reproductive health and educate them on essential social issues beyond football. Mr. Wiyual Lampouch, Chairperson of the SSFA Competitions Committee, commended the teams for their participation, highlighting the importance of learning and benefiting from such training sessions.
Acknowledging the significance of the training for players both on and off the field, Mr. Lampouch expressed gratitude to the partners – UNFPA, IHO, and other supporters – for their commitment to promoting women’s football in the country. The SSFA President’s appreciation was extended to the partners for their pivotal role in supporting this initiative.
Addressing the participants, SSFA Secretary General Mr. Victor Lawrence Lual emphasized the association’s stance against gender disparity in sports, stressing the importance of human rights, gender equality, and peacebuilding in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. He urged the players to utilize their platforms as advocates and mentors to promote these values and combat Gender Based Violence in their communities.
Mr. Lawrence expressed gratitude to the UNFPA and IHO for their collaborative efforts in advancing gender equality and menstrual health hygiene through sports, reaffirming the SSFA’s dedication to championing these causes. He underscored the association’s commitment to continuing its mission to ensure women’s inclusivity and promote vital social issues within the sports realm.
The SSFA, UNFPA, and IHO collaboration sets a positive example in leveraging the power of sports to drive meaningful social change and empower women in South Sudan.
