The community mourns the burial of Rev. Fr. Charles Vigilio Modi Tombe in Yambio
On Wednesday, the body of the late Rev. Fr. Charles Vigilio Modi Tombe, a Catholic priest of the Tambura-Yambio Diocese, was laid to rest at St. Bakhita Parish in Yambio, Western Equatoria State. Fr. Tombe passed away on Monday evening at 7 PM at St. Tereza Hospital in Nzara.
The burial was attended by hundreds of Christians, staff members from the Catholic Diocese of Tambura-Yambio, family members, and the bishop of the diocese who gathered to honor his memory and bid him farewell.
Fr. Benjamin Wasi, the Vicar for Clergy and Religious, confirmed to AlHuriya that Fr. Tombe succumbed to a short illness. “The Catholic Diocese of Tambura-Yambio is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved priest, Fr. Charles Tombe, who departed this life on Monday evening at St. Tereza Hospital,” Fr. Wasi stated.
He spoke highly of Fr. Tombe’s dedication to his ministry, noting that he served in various capacities since his ordination on December 8, 2017. “Fr. Charles Tombe was the Parish Priest of St. Charles Lwanga from 2018 to 2020 and served as a priest for the Apostolic groups from 2020 to 2024,” he added. “Fr. Tombe dedicated his life to serving our community with unwavering faith, compassion, and kindness,” the Vicar remarked.
Fr. Tombe was born in Juba on November 27, 1983.
