Tragic Fire Claims Lives of 6 South Sudanese Nationals in Uganda’s Capital
In a heartbreaking incident, six South Sudanese nationals lost their lives in a devastating fire outbreak in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. The fire swept through the residence of Bakita Atyang, a South Sudanese national at Mulanda B, Kisubi, resulting in the tragic loss of six young lives in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy public relations officer for Kampala, expressed the community’s collective sorrow, stating, “Despite efforts by community members to rescue them, the children, aged between 2 and 16, succumbed to the fire.”
Efforts were made by the Kisubi Police Station and firefighters from Entebbe Police Division to contain the blaze and bring it under control. The bodies of the children were recovered and taken to the city mortuary for postmortem examinations following the tragic incident.
Preliminary investigations suggested that the fire may have started from an electronic kettle left unattended in the sitting room, connected to a socket. The authorities have launched a comprehensive inquiry to determine the exact cause of the fire and prevent such tragedies in the future.
The mother of the children survived with injuries and is receiving medical treatment in the hospital. The father of the siblings, who hailed from Fashoda County of Upper Nile State, expressed profound grief over the loss of his five daughters and one son, aged between 17 and 2 years.
As the authorities delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the fire, the community mourns the untimely loss of these young lives and prays for strength for the affected family during this difficult time.
