Major General Phillip Madut Tong, the Police Commissioner of Western Equatoria State, has made a public appeal for the Yambio community to enhance its cooperation with law enforcement in response to a troubling increase in shootings, thefts, and robberies by unidentified assailants.

In a recent media address, Major General Madut emphasized the vital importance of public involvement in maintaining security. He urged residents to report any suspicious activities, stating, “Everyone in Yambio has a responsibility to report criminal activity in the county.” He highlighted that most crimes occur at night, making it challenging for police to conduct effective patrols due to limited resources.

Madut pointed out the difficulties faced by law enforcement, including a shortage of fuel and vehicles, which has forced officers to conduct nighttime patrols on foot. “These criminals are aware of our limited patrol resources,” he noted. “I urge everyone to support us in keeping our communities safe.”

Residents affected by these crimes have shared their troubling experiences with Al Huriya Media. One victim recounted how four armed men surrounded his home, stole valuables including mobile phones and a motorcycle, and then locked the family inside.

Another resident, identified as Bobo Henry, described how robbers broke into his shop, stole 4 million South Sudanese pounds, and locked him and others inside. He added that the robbers claimed they were only interested in cash.

The commissioner’s appeal highlights the urgent need for collective action to ensure safety, protection, and peace in Yambio as residents seek relief from the ongoing threat of criminal activity.
