INTREPID South Sudan Applauds Visa Sanctions Against Officials
Bol Deng Bol, the Executive Director of INTREPID South Sudan, has openly welcomed the recent visa sanctions imposed on government officials who abuse their positions for personal gain.
In a statement, Bol expressed frustration over the continued state brutality experienced by South Sudanese citizens, with many falling victim to violence, detention, and persecution.
Specifically, Bol called for the immediate release of Mr. Moris Mabior from the NSS detention facility and urged for the Hon. Kuel Aguer Kuel to receive medical treatment abroad without restriction.
The Department of State announced the implementation of visa restrictions on numerous South Sudanese individuals involved in the kidnapping of activists abroad and participating in transnational repression, citing Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
These measures, enacted under the “Khashoggi Ban,” aim to address the persistent threats posed by the South Sudan Transitional Government towards activists and dissidents, regardless of their location. Concerns have been raised by the United States regarding reports of South Sudanese nationals facing intimidation, violence, and forced return to South Sudan for political retribution.
