The South Sudan Council of Churches, in collaboration with the Space Organization and KONRAD ADENAUER STIFTUNG, organized a one-day workshop focused on civic engagement and peace-building to provide local solutions aimed at boosting peace efforts in South Sudan.

Gathering women, youths, and civil society organizations on Friday, the event aimed to emphasize the significance of elections in the country under the theme “Oneness of the Voice for Peace.”

Speaking on behalf of the South Sudan Council of Churches, Advocacy and Peace Coordinator Juan Rachel highlighted the pivotal role that the Church can play in ensuring successful elections. She stated, “The Church can play important key roles in elections by providing civic education on conducting elections and moral guidance to work for peace and unity.” Rachel emphasized that the church guides citizens on social justice to protect people at the grassroots level during elections in South Sudan.

Noel Kaiga Joseph, Program Officer at the Space Organization, underscored the importance of dialogue among political parties to ensure free, fair, and credible elections in December 2024. He emphasized that the stakeholder dialogue workshop aimed to shed light on the constitutional-making process within the country.

In a further statement, Joseph reiterated, “It is crucial that political parties engage in constructive dialogue to pave the way for transparent and inclusive elections. This workshop serves as a platform to enhance understanding and collaboration towards achieving peaceful and democratic processes in South Sudan.”

The collaborative effort between the South Sudan Council of Churches, the Space Organization, and KONRAD ADENAUER STIFTUNG signifies a commitment to fostering peace, unity, and civic engagement within South Sudan through strategic partnerships and initiatives.
