MTN South Sudan Launches 30 Days Yello’ Care Campaign to Renovate Community Schools in Juba

In a bid to give back to the community and improve educational facilities in South Sudan, MTN South Sudan has launched the 30 Days Yello’ Care campaign. The initiative will see MTN staff volunteering their time to renovate community schools in Juba, starting with the Moru Community Primary School in Nyakuron East Residential Area.

Ali Monzer, the Chief Executive Officer for MTN South Sudan, expressed the company’s commitment to making a meaningful contribution to society through the Yellow Care campaign. He stated, “With Yellow Care, we aim to make a meaningful contribution to the community and to society. Over the next four weeks, our MTN staff will volunteer to engage with students, improving sanitation and also renovating some of the classrooms.”

The theme for the 2024 edition of Yellow Care is “Learn today, lead tomorrow; education for rural and remote communities.”

George Kudu, the Chairperson for the Board of Directors of Moru Community Primary School, highlighted the challenges faced by the school due to limited learning space. He mentioned that the school currently has only 8 classrooms, which are not enough to accommodate all pupils.

Moses Mayor, the Head of Corporate Affairs for MTN South Sudan, emphasized the importance of education in shaping future leaders. He stated, “MTN South Sudan came up with Yellow Care to support others, and it was from humble beginnings. We hope to see future leaders, and we hope learners will become great leaders in the future.”

The Yellow Care campaign aims to provide equitable access to safe and protected learning spaces for all children and adults, including those with disabilities. The renovation project at Moru Community Primary School involves replacing the existing primary school block with a steel-framed building cladded with cement blocks and iron sheets, equipped with windows mesh for ventilation and steel casement doors.

MTN South Sudan’s dedication to improving education and empowering communities through initiatives like the 30 Days Yello’ Care campaign demonstrates the company’s commitment to social responsibility and making a positive impact in South Sudan.
