South Sudan Political Party Council Unanimously Passes Election Code of Conduct for Registered Political Parties

In a significant development aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the electoral process, the South Sudan Political Party Council has unanimously passed the Election Code of Conduct for the twenty-nine registered political parties in the Republic of South Sudan. The decision, announced by the Chairperson of the Political Parties Council, Hon Eng. James Akol Zakayo, marks a pivotal moment in shaping the upcoming elections scheduled for December 2024.

During a press conference held on Tuesday, Hon Eng. James Akol Zakayo underscored the importance of adhering to the provisions outlined in the Election Code of Conduct, as mandated by Section 18(1)(e) of the Political Parties Act, 2012 (Amended), 2022, in conjunction with Section 31 of the Political Parties Act, 2012. The adoption of the Election Code of Conduct signals a commitment among the registered political parties to uphold ethical standards and conduct during the electoral process.

Speaking on behalf of the Political Party Council, Hon Eng. James Akol Zakayo emphasized that the passage of the Election Code of Conduct serves as a guiding framework for political parties, outlining principles and guidelines for conducting elections in a free, fair, and transparent manner in the Republic of South Sudan. The move aims to ensure that the electoral process is conducted with integrity and in accordance with democratic principles.

Furthermore, Hon Eng. James Akol Zakayo extended an invitation to unregistered political parties to seize the opportunity and formally register as political entities in the country.
