WES Governor Declares Conducive Environment for Civic and Political Space in the State

On Tuesday, in Yambio, the Governor of Western Equatoria State, H.E. Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba issued State Order 21/2024, dated 1 September 2024, declaring a conducive environment for civic and political space in Western Equatoria State.

This decision follows a two-day workshop on civic and political space organized by UNMISS. The workshop was attended by key stakeholders from Western Equatoria State, including members of the Executive, Legislature, Civil Society Organisations, leaders of the Organized Forces, church leaders, traditional leaders, and the Azande Kingdom.

In his declaration to the media, His Excellency Lt. General Alfred Futuyo Karaba stated that the purpose of enhancing civic and political space is to lead to more sustainable peace, better development outcomes, and strengthened resilience in Western Equatoria State.

The workshop concluded with the signing of a communique that outlined over nine resolutions aimed at enhancing civic and political space in the state.
