Governor Futuyo Confirms Peaceful Political Competition in Western Equatoria State

In Western Equatoria State (WES), Governor Lt. Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba has reaffirmed that the state remains peaceful and open to political competition.

Speaking at Yambio Airstrip on Monday during the arrival of Cde Regina Joseph Kaba, Secretary General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO), Governor Futuyo emphasized that the political space in WES is secure, with no threats to freedom of expression.

He stated, “No threats have been encountered in Western Equatoria regarding freedom of expression and rights in the political sphere. Everyone can engage in politics as they see fit, regardless of their party affiliation.”

“The political environment in Western Equatoria allows all parties, including SPLM-IG, SPLM-IO, and others, to freely express their views. There are no restrictions or threats to political participation,” Governor Futuyo added.

He outlined the key objectives of Cde Regina’s visit, which include training party members from the 10 counties on party documents, establishing offices, and preparing for elections scheduled in two years.

Governor Futuyo further assured that, despite political differences, competition among parties is conducted peacefully, underscoring WES’s commitment to stability.

Upon her arrival with her delegation, Cde Regina Joseph Kaba confirmed their presence in Yambio for a four-day training on SPLM-IO foundational documents. She expressed gratitude for the peaceful environment and the opportunities for political engagement in the state.

The leaders’ remarks reaffirm that Western Equatoria remains politically stable, allowing all parties to participate freely in the democratic process.
