South Sudan Premier League Readies for Kickoff: SSFA Mobilizes Clubs for Historic Launch
In a vital step toward advancing football in the country, the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) recently convened a consultative meeting for club representatives to gear up for the highly anticipated inaugural South Sudan Premier League. This landmark event is set to elevate the game’s standards and nurture emerging talent for the national teams.
During the meeting, President Augustino highlighted the importance of collaboration between clubs and the association to ensure a successful league. “We must work together to meet FIFA standards and create a robust foundation for our football future,” he stated, underlining the pivotal role the league will play in developing local talent.
Chairman Wiyual announced that the league’s first season will commence in Juba from November 2024 and run through May 31, 2025, despite the challenges faced in its establishment. His resolve to overcome these obstacles was met with enthusiasm, signaling a promising era for South Sudanese football.
A significant leap forward for the league came with the announcement that MTN South Sudan has been secured as the official sponsor. This partnership not only showcases corporate interest in local football but also marks a crucial step toward the league’s growth and sustainability.
Robert Zachariah, a member of the Marketing and Investment Committee, shared that efforts are underway to attract additional sponsors to enhance the premier league’s profile and competitiveness. “Our goal is to align our league’s standards with other prominent African leagues, which will help foster growth in South Sudanese football,” he said.
Secretary General Victor Lawrence Lual reinforced FIFA’s endorsement of the league, emphasizing its long-term benefits for player development. “This league will provide a vital platform for players to hone their skills, ultimately contributing to the advancement of football in our country,” he remarked.
