Terekeka County Commemorates World AIDS Day with Call for Health Equity and Human Rights
Authorities in Terekeka County, in collaboration with the State HIV/AIDS Commission, held a commemorative event on Thursday to observe World AIDS Day. The gathering emphasized the critical need for global action to end AIDS, framed under the powerful theme: “Take the Right Path: My Health, My Rights!”
Terekeka County Commissioner George Wani Elia addressed the audience, underscoring the importance of protecting human rights in the fight against HIV/AIDS. “The world can end AIDS if everyone’s rights are protected. With human rights at the center and communities leading the charge, we can eliminate AIDS as a public health threat by 2030,” he stated.
As the World Health Organization (WHO) joins partners and communities worldwide to mark World AIDS Day 2024, Commissioner Wani called on global leaders and citizens alike to champion health rights by tackling the inequalities that impede progress in the battle against HIV/AIDS.
“Make your choice count; speak up for health equity,” Wani urged attendees, highlighting the need for collective action to ensure that no one is left behind in accessing quality healthcare services.
In a heartfelt conclusion, Commissioner George Wani reiterated the vital role of the community in this fight, imploring them to ensure that everyone, everywhere, has the right to quality healthcare in Terekeka County’s ongoing struggle against HIV/AIDS. The event not only commemorated the day but also served as a rallying call for sustained commitment to health equity and mutual support in the region.
