MTN South Sudan has officially launched a groundbreaking Open Market Smartphone Bundling Service, aimed at significantly expanding smartphone access and enhancing digital participation across the country. The initiative was unveiled on Thursday by Monzer Ali, CEO of MTN South Sudan, who heralded it as a transformative step toward democratizing internet access for millions of South Sudanese citizens.

Under the new service, new subscribers will receive 1 GB of data monthly for six months, effectively removing barriers to digital engagement. This initiative targets individuals who purchase a new smartphone or those who activate previously unused devices on the MTN network, facilitating a smoother transition into the digital economy.

During the launch, Ali emphasized the importance of this initiative in reshaping mobile accessibility in South Sudan. “With this initiative, we are empowering our customers and enhancing connectivity while driving economic development,” he stated. “We are effectively liberalizing data access for anyone with a smartphone on MTN South Sudan.”

The CEO further highlighted how this service promotes economic growth by providing access to education and employment opportunities, as well as fostering the growth of e-commerce. “We envision a future where every South Sudanese citizen has the right to access cutting-edge technology,” Ali added.

Kur Nyok Deng, Secretary General of the National Chamber of Commerce, also praised the initiative, describing it as addressing one of the nation’s most pressing challenges—the digital divide. “MTN is empowering millions of South Sudanese citizens, entrepreneurs, and businesses to participate in the global digital economy,” Deng noted. “This is more than a commercial milestone; it is a strategic investment in South Sudan’s future.”

The Open Market Smartphone Bundling Service offers 6 GB of data over six months, with 1 GB valid for seven days each month. This innovative approach not only empowers individuals but could also catalyze economic growth and technological advancement within the nation.

With this launched initiative, MTN South Sudan continues to solidify its commitment to promoting digital development and enhancing connectivity in South Sudan, marking a significant stride towards a more connected and technologically integrated society.
