Governor’s Office Procures Critical Medical Supplies to Combat Cholera Outbreak in Aweil South

In a decisive move to curb the alarming cholera outbreak in Aweil South County, the Office of the Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has procured essential medical supplies aimed at supporting ongoing intervention efforts. The supplies, which include cartons of Ringer’s Lactate, boxes of Azithromycin and Ciprofloxacin tablets, and medical gloves, were officially handed over to the county response team today.

The handover ceremony took place at Wathmuok Primary Health Care Unit (PHCU) and was led by the Acting State Minister of Health, Hon. Daniel Deng Deng. He was joined by the State Chairperson for the Human Rights Commission, Hon. Santo Ajith Angony, along with officials from the County Health Department and other key stakeholders.

According to the latest report from the State Surveillance Department, Aweil South County has recorded more than 177 suspected cholera cases, with 13 fatalities reported so far. The most affected areas continue to grapple with the rapid spread of the disease, prompting urgent intervention from health authorities and government officials.

This procurement underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the health crisis and preventing further loss of life. Health officials have emphasized the importance of community awareness, sanitation improvements, and prompt medical treatment to contain the outbreak and protect vulnerable populations.

As the response efforts intensify, local and national agencies are calling on residents to adhere to hygiene practices and report symptoms immediately to health facilities. The coordinated efforts aim to bring the outbreak under control swiftly and save lives in the affected communities.
