President Kiir Urged to Intervene and End Deadly Violence Between Ngok and Twic Dinka

In a shocking news, Hon. Noon Deng, the Deputy Chief Administrator of Abyei Administrative Area, along with his four bodyguards, was killed in a car road ambush in Rumanmer county of Abyei Administrative Area. This act of violence has been strongly condemned by the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), who are calling on the President to take immediate action.

“This is a sad moment for the family of Abyei and for South Sudan as a whole,” said Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO.

“The perpetrators of this criminal act must be held accountable. The ongoing violence between the Ngok and Twic Mayaradit Dinka communities has been going on for far too long, and previous attempts to resolve it have been undermined by certain political elites.

Yakani further emphasized that many of these political elites are close friends of the country’s top leadership, making it even more crucial for the President to intervene and hold them accountable for perpetuating or fueling the deadly violence.

The killing of the deputy chief administrator is a direct blow to the efforts of the political leaders of the Bahr el Ghazal region, who have been working tirelessly to promote peaceful coexistence among the communities.

“This is a serious slap in the face for the Bahr el Ghazal region peace tour, and it undermines the call for peaceful co-existence,” Yakani stressed.

Mr. Yakani is urging the armed youth of both the Ngok and Twic Mayaradit Dinka communities to refrain from resolving their differences through violence. Instead, they are encouraged to engage in peaceful dialogue to address their political and community disputes.

CEPO is calling on President Salva Kiir Mayardit to take immediate action to end the deadly violence, which is already showing signs of becoming a crime against humanity.
