Mary FC (Yambio) and Nasiry United FC (Maridi) have received full backing as they prepare to represent Yambio Local Football Association in the upcoming South Sudan Cup.
Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro has generously donated 2 million SSP to support the two teams heading to Juba for the National South Sudan Cup 2023/2024.
The president of Yambio Local Football Association made the call for support while in Maridi during the official spiritual dedication of the Foundation sports complex, a project under the Africano Mande Foundation. This call has resonated with many leaders in the area.
President Ndepi confirmed the receipt of the 2 million SSP and expressed appreciation for the financial support towards the two teams representing YLFA in Juba. He stated that 1 million SSP will go to St. Mary FC Yambio and 1 million SSP to Nasir FC Maridi.
President Ndepi emphasized that this kind of support should not stop with St. Mary and Nasir, but should become routine for any team representing Yambio outside the region, especially the girls’ team. He thanked Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro for not only providing financial support but also mobility.
Ndepi called upon the sons and daughters of Western Equatoria State in Juba to rally behind their team and provide the necessary support.
St. Mary FC has already left Yambio for Juba and is expected to arrive in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Nasir FC (Maridi) will face Calvanic FC Nimule/Jebel Koteen in the play-off on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 1:00 pm in Bulluk.
St. Mary FC Yambio will take on Juba Giants Jamus FC Juba on the same day at 3:30 pm in Buluk.
This is their first appearance in the South Sudan Cup, which is always played as a two-leg home and away knockout game in the South Sudan National Cup.
